The Employer Trustees of the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, who are appointed by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the Joint Policy Committee, the Broadcast Industry and the Sound Recording Industry, together with the Union Trustees appointed by SAG-AFTRA, have unanimously agreed to a one calendar quarter extension of health coverage for certain qualified participants who would otherwise lose coverage on October 1, 2023 to account for work opportunities that may have been lost in May and June of this year.

Qualified Participants must:

  1. Be otherwise losing earnings based or Days based coverage on October 1, 2023; AND
  2. Have at least $22,000 in reported earnings (or 85 Alternative Days) from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Qualified participants will receive an email and letter from the Plan confirming their coverage. An alert will also appear when they log in to Benefits Manager.

If you do not qualify for this extension, you will receive a COBRA offer from the Plan. COBRA premium payment assistance or other resources that can help you find affordable coverage may be available to you through your state or through one of the entertainment industry's charitable foundations.

Covered Earnings

Applied Date

The date that is used to determine which timeframe earnings are attributed to will vary based on both the type of work and whether you are over 65 and have begun your pension.

Working Spouse Rule

The Plan’s Working Spouse Rule states that, if your spouse is working for an employer who offers a health plan, the Plan requires them to enroll in that employer-sponsored coverage to be eligible for Plan coverage.
